The Weekend Warrior two-day tour departs from Coffs Harbour before riding through the picturesque seaside village of Sawtell, then (staying off the highway) we ride south along the B-roads to Urunga where we stop for our mid-morning coffee on the river.
After coffee we continue our ride south as close as possible to the coastline through Hungry Head to Nambucca Heads, Macksville, Scotts Head and Stuarts Point, before stopping for lunch at the lovely South West Rocks.
After lunch we head up the road to take a tour of the Trial Bay Gaol to see what it must have been like for convicts all those years ago. From here it is a short ride to the Smoky Cape Lighthouse for a magnificent view across the ocean (whale watching between May and September).
Now we saddle up for a ride along the Macleay River inland to Kempsey, before heading back to the coast to Crescent Head for more spectacular views. From Crescent Head we ride back to the highway for a breezy run down into Port Macquarie where we park the bikes for the night and enjoy this lovely city on the sea.
252 kms – 6.5 hours including stops.
After breakfast we saddle up and head inland to meet that motorcycle mecca known as the Oxley Highway. Our first stop is for fuel and coffee around Wauchope. From here on there are some gentle winding bends until we start to climb the mountain range dominated by the Cottan-Bimbang National Park, which is when things get really interesting. From here on we are met with over 40kms of twisting bends that resemble a race-track in the middle of a rainforest. Simply stunning. Eventually we come out the other side and it almost seems surreal to be travelling in one long straight line again, until we stop for lunch at Walcha.
After lunch we ride north through Uralla to the historic/university town of Armidale, where it’s worth stretching your legs and having a short look around. But it must be short, because today is a long day, as we head east along the open section of the Waterfall Way towards Dorrigo. As we approach Dorrigo the road tightens up just a little, but it is all still gentle sweepers. From Dorrigo we ride the most famous section of Waterfall Way to the quaint and somewhat alternative town of Bellingen for our last leg stretch. From here we ride back towards the highway which takes home to Coffs Harbour. Another scintillating two days that we will never forget.
435 kms – 8 hours including stops.
